It was none other than Prof. Dr. Suchart Upatham, President of Burapha University (BUU), who deemed it an appropriate time to launch a faculty devoted solely to pharmaceutical science. A committee was thus formed to establish the faculty and develop a corresponding curriculum on June 24th , 2009. And leading the committee consisting of pharmaceutical science lecturers from Naresuan University and staff from Burapha Univerisity were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mondhon Sanguansermsri, the former dean of Pharmaceutical Science and President of Naresuan University, and Associate Professor Dr. Rana Pongruengphant, BUU Vice President for Academic Affairs, as chairman and deputy chairperson, respectively. On September 25th , 2009 the Burapha University Council approved the establishment of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science, the official announcement of which appeared in the October 26th , 2009 edition of the Royal Gazette. The faculty’s primary mission was to offer undergraduate and graduate pharmaceutical science programs as well as related research and academic services. In the initial stages of the faculty’s operation, the university entrusted the highest-ranking position in the faculty of dean to Prof. Dr. Somsak Pantuwatana, the university’s Vice President for Research Affairs. And then on February 1st , 2010, Asst. Prof. Dr. WiboonWattanatorn assumed the post of Dean of Pharmaceutical Science in accordance with the university council resolution dated December 22nd , 2009.

To meet its goal of welcoming the first batch of Pharmaceutical Science students in the academic year of 2010, Burapha University submitted its application for certification and approval of its curriculum to the Pharmacy Council on October 13th , 2009. The sub-committee tasked with evaluating institutes and pharmaceutical science curriculums by the Pharmacy Council officially visited the faculty on December 24th and 25th of 2009, after which the sub-committee offered suggestions to the faculty on areas that should be targeted for improvement. Having already implemented these requirements, the faculty is now awaiting the results of its evaluation from the Pharmacy Council and expects to be able to begin taking applications for study from prospective students on May 11th , 2010.
