On February 11, 2025, the Research and Innovation Division of Burapha University, in collaboration with the Faculty of Science of Burapha University, organized a project to elevate the academic quality of Thailand’s blue economy to international standards under the 25 programs to develop the research and innovation system for transforming universities in Year 2025. The event, titled Blue Carbon in Seagrass Ecosystem Training Workshop, is part of the “Reinventing University System” initiative, in collaboration with Walailak University and its network.

Distinguished speakers included Professor Dr. Teruhisa Komatsu from Kyoto University, Professor Dr. Shigeki WADA from Hiroshima University, the research network from Suranaree University of Technology, PEMSEA, and the Ministry of Marine and Coastal Resources. They served as mentors to Burapha University researchers, engaging in joint activities to build knowledge for the conservation, restoration, and management of blue carbon ecosystems.
This initiative also helps increase opportunities for publishing high-quality research in international academic journals, as the researchers receive advice from experts to enhance the quality of their work. Furthermore, the project aims to create a network that connects research with policies, promoting the use of research outcomes to support the development of conservation plans and environmental policies in Thailand in the future.
